The Eternal City and the medieval capital of Umbria are the twin highlights of this journey across the Alps. The «Palatino» overnight sleeper to Rome will allow you to make the most of your stay in Italy, saving on time and hôtel accommodation.

Introduction

You'll arrive directly in the heart of Rome, at Stazione Termini and from the first morning you'll be able to start your exploration of  the italian capital, cradle of western civilisation and the birthplace of Christianity. After a three-day stay, you'll travel by Inter City train to another delightful city steeped in history, the medieval hilltop town of Perugia. Less well-known than its neighbours, Florence and Sienna, you'll be enchanted by its setting and the surrounding countryside, before journeying back by overnight express train to Paris.

Details

1st day

After travelling from your homeward point of departure to Paris, the "Palatino" night express is awaiting in the Parisian terminus of Gare de Bercy. Depending on your arrival time, the "Grand Voyageur" lounge is at your disposal before departure of the train. Shortly before 7pm, installation in your private air-conditioned sleeping compartment, comprising two bunk berths with sheets and blankets, washbasin and hangars. A dining car is available for an evening meal. Night on board train.

2nd day

After breakfast, served in your compartment by the attendant, arrival at Rome's Stazione Termini in the morning. Upon arrival you can collect your travel cards which will allow you to travel   throughout Rome and its environs over a three-day period, giving you ample opportunities to discover all the city has to offer. After leaving your luggage at your nearby 3*** hôtel (rooms available in the afternoon), you have the entire day at your disposal. First night in Rome.

3rd day

After breakfast you have the whole day to enjoy in Rome.Second night in Rome.

4th day

Make the most of your final day – why not visit one of the outlying towns like Frascati or Albano or even Bracciano, in its delightful lake-side setting. Third and final night in Rome.

5th day

After breakfast, morning free before you make your way to the station to take the midday Inter-City train to Perugia.
This comfortable but short journey (two and half  hours) takes you to the centre of Perugia in time to have a full afternoon free in the Umbrian city.Your 3*** hôtel is centrally located and close to the railway station. First of three nights in Perugia.

6th day

After breakfast you have the whole day to admire this fine city and its many higlights. A medieval city, Perugia  is a town of art and culture and has a rich and tormented history.
Second night in Perugia.

7th day

For this whole day at leisure, why not make a visit by train to nearby Lake Trasimeno and the town of Torricella, or go south and visit the renowned city of Assisi? Easy connections by regional trains means you can make the most of your final full day in the area. Third and final night in Perugia.

8th day

After breakfast and check-out (before 11am) you have all morning to enjoy in Perugia before taking your afternoon regional train to Florence for the connection with the evening express back to Paris, once again comfortably installed in your private sleeping compartment.

9th day

After breakfast served in your compartment, the train draws into the Gare de Bercy in Paris at 9am, leaving you plenty of time for homeward connections on to London, Brussels, Amsterdam etc.

Tariffs

1245 € per person, based on two persons sharing a sleeping compartment and double room.

6 nights in 3*** centrally-located hôtels.
7 breakfasts
2 nights in a private sleeping compartment on board the Paris-Rome (outward) «Palatino» overnight sleeper train and the Florence-Rome (inward) Palatino. Each compartment has two bunk beds with pillow cases, sheets and blankets, washbasin and coat hangars.
Reserved seats on board the Inter-City train between Rome and Perugia (2nd    Class).
Train travel between Perugia and Florence on the return leg.
Transport card for Rome valid for three days travel.
