Tunisia's eastern coasts' beaches and seaside resorts are well known, whereas the western inland regions far less so : with this tour you will discover these hidden regions, their mountains and their plains.
Introduction
Starting from Tunis, short train journeys and excursions in a four wheel drive vehicule will ensure you see the most of this fascinating area. Throughout your tour you will be accompanied by an expert guide, well versed in the history, culture and wildlife of the region; he will ensure you make the most of your tour. During the week you will visit Tunis, the hill-top town of Le Kef, Kasserine and Gafsa as well as the roman ruins of Jugurtha, Haïdra and El Jem. To complete this rich and rewarding week you will also visit Tunisia's highest point, Chambi and you will travel by the famous "Lézard Rouge" train after your stay in Tozeur. A very full week but at a leisurely pace is the hallmark of this "off the beaten track" tour.

Day 1
Individual arrivals at Tunis-Carthage airport (or port) and transfer and check-in at the hôtel in Tunis. Overnight in Tunis.

Day 2
After breakfast you will have a guided tour on foot of Tunis, before taking the train westwards to Sers. The duration of the journey is approximately three hours, during which time the pleasant landscapes of the Kroumirie region will unfold. Upon arrival in Sers a short taxi ride will bring you to the hill-top town of Le Kef. Lunch at leisure. Evening dinner in town and overnight at the hôtel in Le Kef.

Day 3
The whole day is dedicated to the visit of this fascinating and little-known town which is nestled in the low mountains of Kroumirie. Lunch and dinner at leisure. Second night at the hôtel.

Day 4
After breakfast, transfer by taxi to Sers in the valley and train to Kalaa Khasba. After the 90-minute journey by train, a short excursion by four wheel drive vehicule brings you to Jurgatha and its famous "table". At the end of the visit picnic lunch and continuation by road to Sbeitla via Haïdra.
Check-in at the hôtel followed by dinner.

Day 5
During the morning, transfer by four wheel drive via Kasserine to Tozeur, gateway to the desert. The itinerary follows part of Rommel's route during the Second World War and a picnic lunch is provided en route. Upon arrival in Tozeur, check-in at the hôtel for the first of two nights, followed by dinner.

Day 6
After breakfast, guided visit of Tozeur. Lunch at leisure. In the afternoon, excursion by four wheel drive to the oasis town of Nefta, situated between the edge of the desert and the Chott El Jerid. At the end of the afternoon, return to Tozeur for the second night of your stay.

Day 7
After breakfast, departure by four wheel drive vehicule for the short journey to Metlaoui where the legendary "Lézard Rouge", train awaits. This historical train will take the route through the beautiful Selja Gorges, hugging the river which flows from Reydef to the west to Metlaoui in the east. Upon returning to Meydef local lunch then continuation by road to Gafsa and check-in at the hôtel followed by dinner.

Day 8
After breakfast, departure by direct train (4 hours) for El Jem. Upon arrival picnic lunch followed by a visit of the amphitheatre close to the railway station and thence by connecting mid-afternoon train to Tunis. Upon arrival in Tunis check-in at the hôtel followed by an excursion by train to the delightful coastal village of Sid Bou Saïd. Dinner in the village and return to hôtel in Tunis.

After breakfast transfer to the airport and homeward journeys.
